PROGRAM
Day 1 - Arrive in Caracas and transfer to domestic airport, take - off for Puerto Ayacucho: entrance to the Amazon. Overnight in lodge.
Day 2 - Transfer by jeep to Puerto Samariapo where we’ll board a 14 metres boat and start sailing along the superb Orinoco river until we’ll reach San Fernando de Atabago: a village born at the beginning of the 20th century when the rubber business boomed.
Day 3 - Today we continue our trip on the Majestic river passing by the rapids of Santa Barbara well known for their labyrinth among the existing 75 islands; passing through the mouth of Rio Ventuari, a tributary of the Orinoco, will arrive at a small Indian community just in front of Yapacana Nat. Park where we’ll overnight.
Day 4 - We go ahead till reaching the Lau Lau group of Indians and we also have time to take a nice walk into the jungle.
Day 5 - We still sail on the Orinoco but after a while will switch on Rio Cunucunuma, an area where the tepuy (table mountains) are present. In this place are living the Indians Yecuana. We go further on till we reach the village of Belen de Culebra where we’ll spend the night in front of Duidà tepuy.
Day 6 - Still sailing on the Rio Cunucunuma till reaching the Cuebra indian community; overnight in front of Wachamacari tepuy.
Day 7 - Today we sail down the Cunucunuma leaving behind us the tepuy and reaching the village of Tama-Tama where the Piaroa Indians live (missionary influence).
Day 8 - From here we’ll catch up the Rio Casiquiare and sailing along it we’ll stop on some beaches to take a bath and breakfast, later we’ll visit an near area rich of petrogliphes. We’ll then proceed to a place called Coramoni where it’s possible to fish piranas which will be our dinner. Overnight on the beach.
Day 9 - After breakfast we’ll still sail along the Casiquiare and later approaching the Laguna Pasiva, the hugest in the area, beautiful and rich on fish. Overnight on the beach.
Day 10 - Going down along the Casiquiare we’ll reach the village of Cavaroa, inhabited by Indians Yanomani, the most ancient ethnic group of the Venezuelan Amazon. We’ll spend the night with them.
Day 11 - In the morning we’ll sail along the Rio Siapa to visit a second group of Yanomani which did have few contact with westerns. Overnight with them.
Day 12 - Today we stay at the village with the Yanomany and will be part of the Yopo ceremony, than will visit their conucos.
Day 13 - After breakfast we’ll offer our gifts and some help to the Indians, than we’ll take- off again sailing on Rio Casiquiare reaching the Indian community of Curripaca and here we’ll spend the night. This is also the place where we’ll change our boat: it will be a faster one.
Day 14 - Today we’ll pass through the Natural Monument “Piedra de Kurimacare” where it’s possible to see the joining of the 2 rivers Casiquiare and Guainia which form the Rio Negro bordering Brazil. We’ll sail on the Guainia till reaching the multiethnic village of Maroa. Overnight here.
Day 15 - This morning we’ll load our boat and luggage on a jeep and drive to the Yavita village located on the banks of Rio Teni where we’ll spend the night.
Day 16 - We’ll sail through Rio Teni and Rio Atabago reaching Samariapo where our trip will end.
Day 17 - Drive back to Puerto Ayacucho, overnight in lodge.
Day 18 - Flight P. Ayacucho-Caracas- your country
Changes in the tour:
This itinerary is the most complete but for those people who has shorter time the trip could be reduced.
