ETIOPIA - Semien Mt. National Park

Characteristic of the tour:
The trek offers a spectacular landscape which took shape from the numerous volcanic eruptions dated about 40 million years ago. The National Park cover 180 square km. and lies in the afro-alpine area at variable altitudes from 1900m to 4543m.
There are 3 kind of endemic mammals present in the park: Wayla Ibex, Ethiopian Wolf and Gelada Baboons.

PROGRAM

Day- 1-2- Arrive in Addis Abeba capital of Ethiopia and 3rd highest capital of the world (2450m.above sea level. Take place at the Taitu hotel; free day eventually visit at the market (the hugest in Africa) or visit the Menelik Palace located on top of the hill.

Day- 3- Domestic flight early in the morning from Addis.A to Gondar, 2210m above sea level. Afterward we’ll take our jeep and drive straight to Debark at the entrance of Semien N. P.
Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day- 4- Early in the morning soon after breakfast we’ll drive for 3 hours to Sankaber and from here will start to hike to Geech (4 hours). Along the trail we’ll have a spectacular view of the landscape and should be able to see endemic mammals such as Wayla Ibex and Gelada Baboons. We’ll pass at the Ginabar waterfalls surrounded by a rich vegetation. Overnight at Geech campsite (3550m).

Day- 5- Trek from Geech to Chenek, 5 hours, where we’ll camp for the night. We need 5 hours hike but the total time from place to place always depend on how long we stop for taking pictures.

Day- 6- We’ll hike today toward Ambilco (3050m) and if we’ll be lucky we’ll be able to see the rare Semien’s fox and the Ethiopian wolf. Overnight at Ambilco campsite located at the feet of Mt.Rash Dashen.

Day- 7- We won’t pack our tents today because we’ll trek for a day to Mt. Rash Dashen: highest peak of Ethiopia (4543m). We’ll go as high as 1500m from where we are and will have an astonishing view of all the Semien mountains chain. Will go back to Ambilco campsite for the night.

Day- 8- From Ambilco we’ll walk to Alquso (3570m) where we’ll spend the night at the campsite.

Day- 9- Hike from Alquso to Chenek: on the way we’ll stop at some villages where Amhara people live. They are very hospitable and some small gifts for them will be a great idea.
Camp in Chenek.

Day- 10- Last day of the trek where we’ll move from Chenek to Sankaber and will camp for the night.

Day- 11- Transfer by jeep from Sankaber to Gonda where we’ll spend the night in hotel.

Day- 12- Gondar in 1636 was the capital of Ethiopia. The castle and some other building in the old city are kept in a good shape, it’s well worth to spend at least a day since we’re here.

Day- 13- We’ll drive today from Goadar to the Blue Nile Falls and will spend the night in Bahir Dar.

Day- 14- Domestic flight from Bahir Dar to Addis A. The resto f the day is free.

Day- 15- Flight from Addis A. to your country.

End of the tour

The tour include:
everything from airport to airport. Half board.
The trekking include: all meals and non alcholics drinks, park entrance ,local guide, scout, cook, all the camping stuff needed, mule for luggage transportation.
