PROGRAM
Day 1- Arrive in Caracas and transfer to a domestic flight to Merida, at the feet of the Andean Cordillera, take place in hotel or posada.
Day 2 - Free day in Merida and eventually visit at the traditional village of Los Alero. Late afternoon we’ll get the backpack ready for our trek at Pico Bolivar starting the next day.
Day 3 - Leaving Merida by jeep in the morning after breakfast to reach the beginning of the trail where we’ll start the trek. Within about 4 hours will be at Laguna Azul where we’ll set up the first camp for the night.
Day 4 - Right after breakfast we’ll get ready to start hiking again following the same trail for a little while, than will switch-off and go to the Humboldt Glacier starting to climb it without technical difficulties. From the top we’ll have a spectacular view. Return to the camp and stay overnight.
Day 5 - Today the trail is really steep but worth it. We are now at the top of our trek and very close to the Pico Bolivar (5005m), on the opposite side down lie Merida: the view is unbeatable. This ’s also the point where the highest and longest cable car in the world arrive from Merida; we are supposed to have dinner and overnight at the lodge if the warden will allowed us, otherwise we’ll set the tents.
Day 6 - The long trail going down to the opposite side where we came from is so steep that it’d bore us so we’ll take the cable car and get-off at the first stop, than start walking again till we’ll reach the characteristic village of Los Nevados where we’ll dine and stay overnight in a posada.
Day 7 - We’ll go back to Merida with a jeep and the rest of the day is free. Overnight in a posada or hotel.
Day 8 - Today will be the start of an excursion that will last 4 days. We’ll be leaving Merida with a 4wd and drive all day till we reach Los Llanos: it’s not a Nat. Park but a huge area where a lots of ranches are based. This place is a world on its own offering like an immense open-air-zoo in an environment with jungle, rivers, small lakes and swamps. We’ll be at the bungalow area for 3 meals a day and overnight in hammocks.
Day
9-10 - In this world we’ll always move around with our jeep and will have the opportunity to see so many different animals like crocodiles, monkies, anacondas, capibaras, ant-eater and overall so many different birds: small, big and coloured. We’ll be fishing piranas by a primitive system and eat them for dinner; they’ll be cooked by the excellent staff working at the camp.
